The Foundation of Everything
After the death of my father when I was just 5, family became even more important. My mother raised us with an extraordinarily strong family culture. Family remains the center of all I am and do. My wife, Lana, is my best friend and partner in life and ministry. Our sons, Andrew and Gregory are our pride and joy. Our extended family a constant source of wisdom, love and acceptance.
My Culture & Influence
I was raised on a church pew. My life has always revolved around church and our church family. My life has given me a great love and devotion to the Church, the physical expression of Christ on the Earth. My passion is to see the Church be all she is destined to be.
I was saved as a young child and have never been away from the Lord or the Church. As a teenager, the Lord placed a burden in my heart for ministry. Through the years, my life and ministry have evolved and matured. From children’s ministry, to youth and young adult, and then on to adult ministry, my ministry has changed much. My heart, however, has always been ignited with a passion for helping people to know Jesus more deeply.
The Church Plant
In 2003, Lana and I launched Grace Awakening Church in our living room. Over the next 10 ½ years, the Lord stretched us until we were no longer recognizable from who we had been. God transformed us from somewhat of a traditional church into more a ministry focused on Presence-based worship, a growing maturity of gifts expressed through each member, and developing leaders among us. In 2013, the Lord led us from pastoring into a ministry focused on leadership development, worship, and Kingdom expansion.
The Joy of the Unexpected
My career in the Federal prison system gave me ample opportunity to experience a worldview radically different from any I had ever known. Over the years, I began to incorporate ministry to the inmates in my daily work. Ultimately, I led many faith-based counseling programs and even served as the leader of the inmates’ Pentecostal service. Through this unique and rewarding time, I learned much about God’s redemptive power to radically transform lives. It was here that my passion for developing leaders was truly ignited. There are men of God all over this nation that received their ministerial training from my ministry at the prison where they once served time. God is able to make all things beautiful.
Passion for Creating & Launching
As a child I would dream about different careers and business ideas. I have always had a fearless pursuit of creating, launching, and perfecting the next great business idea. There have been many great successes and catastrophic failures! Through them all, I have learned and grown. This journey has gifted me with a deep respect and admiration for those in the world of business – especially for other entrepreneurs. I believe the entrepreneurial spirit is a beautiful picture of Creator God in action. And it is still alive and well in me!
I began my college career while still in High School. I have always loved school, and my academic record reflects that. I changed my major more times than I can remember, as I sought that perfect degree to launch my career. After a dramatic burn-out and four-year hiatus, I ultimately settled on a BA in Organizational Communication. This satisfied the requirements for my promotion at the prison where I worked and has benefited my family and ministry in many ways. After my government career I returned to school to accomplish a lifetime goal of graduating from Seminary. I studied theology, church history, and Christian leadership at Dallas Theological Seminary where I graduated with a Masters degree.
A Lifetime Pursuit
God created me with an intense love and passion for learning. Few things give me greater pleasure than learning something new. This passion for knowledge has led me into many strange and diverse fields of study, including, but not limited to: mathematics, history, astronomy and physics, Bible and theology, leadership, computers, web design, business and entrepreneurship, teaching, public speaking, martial arts, finance and investing, real estate, golf, personality profiling, counseling, sound engineering, podcasting, politics, fitness and nutrition, and so much more! I know. I’m very eclectic!
